Research Interests
I am a Rhetoric and Composition scholar and a fiction writer. My research interests are in digital and Latinx rhetorics, first-year writing, multilingualism, critical prison studies, and writing centers. I also deeply believe in the restorative and agentive force of oral histories and autoethnography. My fiction (for now) explores Latinx and Queens quotidian cultures and the Peruvian American experience.
Teaching Interests
I teach first-year writing courses (English 110 and 130) and courses in the English Writing Minor. As a Writing specialist I am a strong believer in the process, potential, and the social and personal good of writing. I come to writing (as a discipline, method, and practitioner) as a strong believer in prose and verse that operates on multiple levels. Writing is an agentive force for identity creation, community building, and thinking. Writing is access, expression, and documentation. In short, in my classes we write a lot and for a lot of different reasons. I also don’t ask any of my students to write stuff I wouldn’t write.
