Rigoberto González is not only a world-class writer, having written over a dozen books, from poetry and prose to children’s literature, he also holds the distinction of being the first Visiting Professor to the Queens College MFA in Creative Writing and Translation. And now, finally, after almost ten years, Rigoberto González is returning to QC as a guest reader. If the praise and respect from his contemporaries, collegaues, and students (past and present) doesn’t prove to you what a special event this is, Gonzalez’s accolades certainly will:

Rigoberto González is the author of four books of poetry, most recently Unpeopled Eden, which won the Lambda Literary Award and the Lenore Marshall Prize from the Academy of American Poets. His ten books of prose include two bilingual children’s books, the three young adult novels in the Mariposa Club series, the novel Crossing Vines, the story collection Men Without Bliss, and three books of nonfiction, including Butterfly Boy: Memories of a Chicano Mariposa, which received the American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation. He also edited Camino del Sol: Fifteen Years of Latina and Latino Writing and Alurista’s new and selected volume Xicano Duende: A Select Anthology. The recipient of Guggenheim, NEA and USA Rolón fellowships, a NYFA grant in poetry, the Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America, the Poetry Center Book Award, the Bill Whitehead Award for Lifetime Achievement from The Publishing Triangle, and the Barnes & Noble Writer for Writers Award, he is a contributing editor for Poets & Writers Magazine and is a professor of English at Rutgers–Newark, the State University of New Jersey.

Please join us in welcoming, for one night only, Rigoberto Gonzalez for an excellent reading. This event is, as always, free and open to the public, and will be followed by a small reception and book signing in the lobby of our beautiful Godwin-Ternbach Museum.

Hope to see you there!
